OSB Table

oriented strand board, poplar, steel angle, magnets, set screws.
2014.

This table puts to use Oriented Strand Board: a wood composite building material, commonly used in roofing and construction site fencing.

The variegated composition of the material makes for an exciting surface. The top is finished with a thin layer of epoxy resin to make it smooth and easy to clean, while flattening the familiar texture of OSB to a framed image of itself.

The top—detachable by a hip-bump—adheres to the skirt via a set of ten magnets. When the top is aligned, the magnets snap into place, keeping the structure rigid. Held together with only one kind of set screw, the piece easily disassembles with the included key for ease of relocation.
